By rail from Exeter to Plymouth via Okehampton? By 2014??

For some years there has been speculation about the possibility of re-opening Okehampton's rail link with Exeter on a full time-basis. (See Okehampton People story). The line exists and is in daily freight use and stations are available.

Could Okehampton's beautifully-restored station become a stop on the Exeter to Plymouth line?
But now countryside campaigners are proposing to re-open the line all the way from Exeter to Plymouth.
However, the line from Okehampton to Tavistock poses significant problems. One only has to mention the Meldon Viaduct, Lake Viaduct (worth a walk to if you havn't seen it) and, most important, Tavistock Station, which has been converted to houses.
These obstructions do not appear to deter campaigners. They have called for a feasibility study into the project, citing the fragility of the old GWR Dawlish sea wall route as the vital reason for re-opening the line.
