West Devon BC offer easier route to Council Tax Benefit

Council tax bills are dropping on doormats all over West Devon this week, and amongst the usual gloom, doom and shouts of, "But what do we get for our money?' comes a glimmer of hope for those hard-pressed residents who find paying the tax difficult.
A leaflet enclosed with the bill assures us that if you apply for Council Tax Benefit 'there are no long forms to fill in - we'll come and talk to you at home'.
Anyone who has tried to apply for this benefit in the past will know just what a minefield it can become. Pages of forms, no end of documentary requirements... and if you make one small error on the form it's back to the beginning again.
Now you can ring them - 01822 618888 - or send off the slip which came with your bill, and they promise to contact you 'within a few days'. There's more information on the Council's website.
But the proof of the pudding... will be how the new service delivers. If you apply for benefit - and you'll be surprised just how many people are eligible - let us know here on Okehampton People how well the system works.
Good luck!
