UFO over Okehampton - or just a trick of the light? UPDATE

People in Okehampton are reporting red lights on the sky last night (Sunday) immediately after there was a power cut, which blacked out  off half the town and caused power fluctuations as far as Hatherleigh and South Zeal.

As well as the comments posted here on Okehampton People, others I spoke to in town this afternoon saw similar lights.

It being a Bank Holiday, no-one was available at SWEB to give any technical explanation: it will be interesting to see what they have to say tomorrow!

UPDATE

SWEB report that the power cut was caused by an owl landing on an overhead cable, which caused a short circuit. When the owl (sadly deceased) landed there would have been a considerable sparking and flashing - but it would have been very short-lived (like the owl!), and certainly not having the appearance of a red light in the sky.

However, the plot thickens when you read a report from Leigh People about a Christmas Day UFO sighting.

And this has just turned up on Twitter...

Were UFOs seen over Okehampton just after Christmas? Documents just released suggest that many people have seen similar things over the years!

It was a hot air balloon, we watched it for about 5 minutes, after our power went off. Explaining the orange/red lights, but the power cut is a totally different situation. I beleive this was just a coincedence and happened roughly around the same time. Everbody shoulld use common sense rather than speculating.
