Okehampton's Edwardian Evening draws the crowds

A large crowd braved a chilly and showery night to enjoy the delights of Okehampton's Edwardian Evening last night (Thurs).

Christmas is nearly here!
Festive food and drink was evident everywhere, from Phil Martin's legendary hog-roast and the aroma of The Lions roasting chestnuts to the candyfloss and chocolate all the children were clamouring for. And wherever you went the air was heavy with the less-than-subtle bouquet of mulled wine. (Your correspondent was driving: torture!)
And there was plenty to see and do. Cogs and Wheels Ladies Morris entertained in Red Lion Yard before the mayor arrived to host carol singing with The Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band, while outside the Town Hall a fair ground organ pumped out seasonal favourites.
The shops were doing a roaring trade, local organisations provided all sorts of food and drink - as well as spreading their particular word - and as the evening wound down the pubs filled with happy people in need of something warming.

Hello there my name is Dominic J White I live in Okehampton and have all my life, I believe that on one of the biggest events in the Okehampton events list that surely there must be a way if luring more people to the event. I believe that and a few friends of mine agree that maybe a celebrity could come and turn on our Christmas lights would lure more people into the town and get them spending, If Hatherliegh can do it why can't we?
