"Improve the town and increase tourism", say Okehampton councillors

A working party of Okehampton councillors are to study the successes and failings of the town in an effort to make it more attractive for both potential tourists and local residents alike. The initiative - Destination Okeheampton - is led by councillors Michael Ireland, Christine Marsh and Paul Vachon.

Okehampton Castle - one of the town's few tourist attractions
Their initial practical action will be to hold a 'Spring Clean, on Saturday 17th April, when they hope other members of the council will join them litter-picking throughout the town between 10.00am & 12.30pm.
They will also be taking what they describe as an 'audit of the town', looking at the highs and lows, good features and blackspots.
Publicising present regular events and encouraging the return of old ones is also part of their long-term plan.
Cllr Vachon said, "We need to get more people into the town, to increase footfall and get the town used more as a holiday destination."
What do you, the people of Okehampton, think needs to be done to improve the town for tourists? (And do you want them?). A recent discussion thread here at Okehampton People suggested that some residents have little regard for their home town!

Litter picking? hahahaha what a joke.
1: Shut down rumors so people can walk around Okehampton at night.
2: Cap commercial property rent/lease so people can actually run their businesses AND feed their children.
3: Halt all residential projects until there is adequate parking and roads for everyone.
