Dear people of Okehampton.

I am relocating to Devon with work and have found a property in your area and would very much appreciate your views on Okehampton.

Anything and everything would be appreciated.

We relocated here in October last year. No regrets whatsoever, we looked at quite a few towns in Devon but always felt Okehampton was the place for us. As has already been mentioned, it's got a great park, nice pubs, good road links and plenty of shops. The fact that it's so close to the moor is excellent too and we've been made to feel very welcome. If we'd moved anywhere smaller I think it would have been a bit of a shock for us but Okehampton is a perfect size.

If you use the internet as it appears you do. Broadband and can be appalling in most areas of Devon. There is no planned Fibre Optic Roll Out for this area. Whereas Cornwall is 90 percent planned fibre optic roll out.. Devon is over 90 percent NOT planned. A big consideration if you are used to decent broadband!

I have lived here all my life and now as a 23 year old working in Civil Engineering I have to commute every day to Exeter. I take the public transport route, but if you drive Exeter is within 30 minutes or so. Finding a job in town in hard, as there is not a lot of choice, especially if you have a professional career. My parents also still live here and I have good friends here. My fiance has moved here, just over a year ago and is now starting to realise that Cornwall isn't always best! Perfect location for the moor, I used to ignore that fact when I was a teenager, but now I appreciate it all over again. Nightlife could be better, but there isn't too much trouble. There is a high number of people from "the older generation", but they are lovely and make our town special. The cinema is lovely and cheaper than the larger city cinemas, clothes shopping is awful. Good excuse to go to Exeter! All in all, I'd say a lovely place. I don't think I'll grow old here, but I'm definately happy for now :-) Good luck in you search!

We have lived in Okehampton for twenty years now and we love it. Dartmoor is on your doorstep, north coast surfing is forty minutes away, south coast about the same. Good schools (our two children both went to the secondary school and have both gone on to high achievement through university). Good local facilities - three supermarkets, great cinema, pubs, leisure centre, community centre and lovely park. We travel the world but love to come back to Okehampton. If you're looking for downsides look no further than the high rainfall! Nightlife is limited to say the least, and there is not a wide selection of restaurants. But all in all a great place to bring up your kids.

We've just relocated ourselves, and found it to be a friendly place, with ordinary people on the doorstep of an extraordinary place. We're blessed to have the Granite Way just up the road, if that's what you like.
I'm sure some will moan and others praise it- just like anywhere. Primary School has been very welcoming and just got a place in Secondary for my eldest, so can't tell you much.
Good luck wherever you end up.
