DEVON COUNTY ORDERS 100 PAY AND DISPLAY METERS AT £290,000

We all knew that DCC had already ordered the Pay and Display meters making their so called consultation a complete sham, but at a cost of £290,000?? This is the same Council that came asking us to make 'Tough Choices' on where the axe should fall. Well it is a no brainer Cllr John Hart and Cllr Stuart Hughes - cancel the order. Nobody wants these Pay and Display meters in any of the towns where they are proposed. There - instant savings overnight and just in time before you make your final decisions at Cabinet tomorrow about where the axe will fall..............

Anybody want a second hand Pay & Display meter - 100 going begging...

Having been made redundant at the Polester foods factory in Okehampton upon attending the social Security Office in Exeter for my initial interveiw at which, (they are supposed to give you your travel expences ) I noted several ex co-workers and made sure and told them that they should make sure and ask for their expences to be paid at the end of their interveiw. None of them were aware that their expences would be paid.
I waited at the end of my interveiw to see if their would be any mention of expences from the interveiwer.
Well, I saw the same interveiwer a few minutes later and asked who do I see about my travel expences?, Oh! That is me came the reply.

And I think about the good people of Okehampton donating food, time and other to help the people who have lost their livelyhood but the government department supposed to help support them let them down. I have no doubt that if i had not been there on that day that they would have let most if not all go home to handouts from the public knowing they had saved hundreds /thousands of pounds for their department. I was at the meeting at the Polester foods factory in Okehampton and no mention was made there then by the Social Security Office staff that they should ask for their expences.....I only saw a few that day there would be hundreds going. How many got paid and how many got left with less in their pocket at a time of need?
Quite a lot of the people attending had never signed on in their lives. I feel disgusted at the money grabbing attitude of some Government departments. In my view it only goes to show how insulting and penny pinching they can be.

It does beggar belief - the days of the Councils working for the people have turned to working against them. We are fortunate to have a platform to speak up - no wonder so many people, particularly the young are disengaged from democracy and politics. Carry and they will completely destroy what took Centuries to build up.

I pay my council tax just like many.
Since the new collection regieme I have not had my rubbish collected 3 times,in fact it is still sitting there now from Thursdays collection,I have no street lighting,and I have been snowed in the last two times and could not get out,hardly any grit/salt left for us to put down,the roads are pothole ridden covered in mud and muck,the roadside culverts/trenches are covered in with muck so the water has to flow over the road,yet, I still pay my council tax, and now they want to take away a small amount of free parking in town,beggars belief really.

Unfortunately they are voted in, but many vote for the Party and not the individual. What is clear is that the Conservative Councillors on Devon County Council are working against the people who put them there. They have until 2013 to soft soap people into voting them in again. They are intent on taxing people into the ground as if nationally that was not enough.
