Story from Sticklepath Fireshow:

On a damp Devonian afternoon an enthusiatic audience gathered in a marquee at South Zeal Recreation Ground to witness the culmination of this years Crafty Capers.

Throughout the week leading up to the show workshops were held at the venue where children of all ages, and some adults too, got together to make all sorts of outfits, puppets and wacky constructions.

The finale of the event was a catwalk fashion show & exhibition of the weeks work, spread across various categories as well as short performance from Mariners Away, who entertained during the interval with some of their sea shanties.

Crafty Capers is the summer project organised and run by the Sticklepath Fireshow team, & the finale was opened by Fireshow Chair Janice Goodwin, who thanked everyone who helped make the event possible, especially the Devon Community Foundation for their financial help through the Grassroots Grant funding scheme.

Janice made particular note of how great the children had been all week, especially as kids today are so often pilloried in the media and society for their bad behaviour and said what a delight it had been to work with them.

Winners included Benjamin Rogers as Shere Khan in the Villains category, Jessica Tizard as Tweedle Dum & Tweedle Dee in the Characters from the Alice books, Daisy Bol as a cryptic saxophone in the be a musical instrument section, Laura Bazeley in a garment from waste, Bonnie Bolt as a piece of broccoli in the make something edible round, Sophia Marshall in an outfit for a pop or rock star, with Alfie Mitchell-Gillespie picking up the award for best child model in show.

Between each round of children the adults also joined in the fun with their take on each category and provided plenty of chance for the audience to guess what they were supposed to be.

The Fireshow Committee are always looking for volunteers to get involved with various projects and more information on every aspect of their work can be found at www.sticklepathfireshow.org.uk
