Age Concern Devon will be showcasing their services at West Devon Connect’s regular drop in outreach sessions during September.

The main focus will be on promoting the nationwide More Money in your Pocket campaign which was launched nationally in July and supported by actress Barbara Windsor. It is aiming to get an extra £100 million into the pockets of 50,000 older people over the next year.

Each year older people miss out on up to £5 billion of unclaimed benefits. This is money intended for older people on the lowest of incomes and can make such a difference to their overall health and wellbeing.

Age Concern Devon’s campaign has received a welcome boost as they have received a grant from British Gas to support their work in the county’s rural communities and a large focus of this work will be in and around the West Devon area.

The campaign aims to ensure that all older people in Devon and their carers are aware of the financial help that is available to them, and to find out if they have any entitlements as early in their retirement years as possible.  Not a week goes by when Age Concern Devon does not receive a call from someone who is living on a low income and spending their savings to make ends meet, when they could have been receiving a benefit such as Pension Credit or Attendance Allowance.

So come along to your local West Devon Connect event and help us to help you put more money in your pocket. There is also an opportunity to enter the monthly free prize draw to win either £1000 or a holiday!

If you are unable to attend an event and would like to find out more about this campaign or any of our services please call 0845 296 7810.

As always there will be a Customer Service Advisor from West Devon Borough Council to help you alongside many other Council and Public Service enquiries.
