Aparently some sort of 'Executive Cafe', obviously for all the flourising business types we have in Okehampton at the moment. I was told by one of the men who works for a company installing the air con. I saw on the Planning Portal that a small number of flats were granted permission for the upper floors. Not sure if this is still going ahead.

Aaagh, so while I'm sitting in my executive chair with my executive briefcase planning my executive meetings on my executive ipad, drinking exhorbantly priced coffee.......I can watch the traffic jams in Market Street and plan a meeting for the executives , to botch up yet another slice of our old market town!!!!!! You know the one..the old market town without a market......come on Hatherleigh, catch up.!!!!!!!!!!

It's got to be better than just having an empty nightclub sat there though isn't it? It's good to see places opening up in the town rather than closing, good luck to them I say.

So how many eateries do we have in the town now? It will be nice to see all the wealthy people on display, behind their glass windows. So us mere mortals can walk past and can gaze freely at them!!!!!
With large businesses closing at an alarming rate in Okehampton, one wonders who this "executive cafe" is targeted at?
I hope they.ve done their projected forecast for the next three years to present to their financial backers.....then perhaps they could present their findings to someone further up the line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now then.....let me write a business plan................where in the southwest has the four largest employers all left the town?
That's where I'll build my "executive cafe"

God forbid Okehampton should ever progress!

Better an executive cafe than let the building stay empty, run down and get vandalised like the old mill. That's a great way to attract businesses and investment into the area.

Okehampton is right on the A30 slap bang in the middle of Devon so has the makings of an excellent meeting venue. You only have to look in Waitrose car park to see there's a few quid about. So what exactly is wrong with a nice cafe that the same people can have a drink in after doing the weekly shop? I'm all for some over-priced coffee if it's going to employ a few local people.

This town needs to wake up to the fact that it's not a market town any more - it's a commuter town for Exeter. We need to sort out the public transport links and shop owners need to realise that if they want people to "shop local" then a good start would be to stay open after 5pm and at the weekends.

But none of this will change while the town continues to look backwards and reminisce about what was rather than took a positive approach and looked at what could be.

Looking at history, should give us a clearer picture/view of the future.....but you have to have faith in the powers that be.
Half of what you want for Okehampton, we had.
A coach park ...for visitors to the town
Streets wide enough, so two buses could pass!!
Parking for a car and caravan.

Remember, all this was taken away, in the name of progress and getting Okehampton on the map!!!!

Someone, up in the planning gods, does their utmost to mess it up.
Millions of pounds have been spent to make the town what it is today.
Money came from Waitrose, foot and mouth, rural developement, and other quangos.
But until the infrastructure is put in place, Okehampton can never improve.
Get the bridge in place at the end of Link Road, over the river, then it starts to ease the traffic around the town center....then, perhaps, we could have some street cafes etc........but do you really want to sit looking at a traffic jam all day in Market Street?
