A living wage, Secure Job contracts , Business like Polestar forced to act lawfully , and a efficient welfare system to help poor people when things go wrong.
These are all things that are the government is responsible for. Feeding the poor should not be left to old ladies donating tins from their shopping trolly. The Kindness of people is overwhelming. But so is the shame of a government that allows this to happen.

What do you want to do about it? Being sceptical is sensible even essential .Being cynical is pointless.
The minimum wage was introduced by labour. and has been increasing year on year. i want to go further, what do you want? The Tories did everything they could to block it.
Foodbanks where set up for eastern Europeans in need. That they are being used to feed working people in Britain is a terrible indictment .
Please respond with your ideas for going forward , Im very interested.

ReportI just want facts based on events that were in place less than 12 months ago. It is no good playing fairy godmother politics on this. Foodbanks have existed in some form for years, particularly in inner city areas. Okehampton has managed to put them on the map by their use in this way. The minimum wage may have come into force during a Labour Government, but it is a lead in from Europe. as with many matters, they are all driven by European Directives. This is part of the quest for a European Minimum Wage.
Just because we have a minimum wage does not mean that it is being paid. There are many sweat shops and charges on migrant labour that makes it mean little. 'Minimum Wage Jobs' are in a class of there own and for many mean a lot of work for little money, something the employer gets away with by law. It can only be a good thing where the work and employer profit reflects that wage.
Yes I agree. also there are legally waged jobs advertised in job centres. But they have no secure contract. Wages can be dropped without notice and people can be laid off without notice.
Someone who takes this kind of job will then have a break in their claim. when they return to unemployment they can face an extensive wait. For someone on a low income and no savings this can be disastrous . leading to poverty and even homelessness.
I think this needs to stop. and Im trying to do something about it. what are you doing?

ReportYou only appear to be highlighting matters like myself. But that said I am part way through a procedure in an attempt to do more. I have lived and associated in areas that would make Okehampton look fortunate at this time. Being in homes where people drink tea out of jam jars and use tea bags several times (after re-drying over days), making Christmas decorations for the children from the swans off match boxes. To name just a few things that people do to make ends meet - Need I go on?
You don't have to be clever to spot that this Tory Government is creating as many Poverty traps as they can get away with.....They are totally evil minded people that only have their intrests at ......I was going to say Heart but that would be disshonest, as they are heartless ba.....s
They are still of that ilk that would love to bring back and are trying to bring back the early Victorian era where they were rolling in money while the Population rolled in ****....litterally.
It took a World War for them to realise that we really did have to relay on each other and that we were brothers and make a Welfare State to look after each other in the way that a proper load sharing Society should do.
But this " RENT A MOB OF BANKERS AND BUSINESS MEN GOVERNMENT" have the country by the b...s and will try to make us pay for their luxury by killing off as many of the Poor as they can, creating more, also creating more crime and injustice, making more homeless and a smaller Police force and all the other things that were rife in early Victorian times. Perhaps they would like the children to go up chimneys again.
If they have their way our Society will.
GET THEM OUT
SNILLS
well done snills, the times columnist on 10 o'clock live said," what interest does the government have in destroying education?"
I think I can answer that. Free Education for all was a principle hard fought for by the socialists against a class that wants to keep the power to themselves. Education Liberates , ignorance enslaves. We where always their slaves, we liberated ourselves and now we are walking back into the trap. So in this way I agree we are turning back the clock, to pre ww2 standards.
