St Mildthryth's Night saw a packed KA entertained by the most eccentric ad-hoc session I have heard (or witnessed): 3 hurdy-gurdies, 2 sets of pipes, a French Horn, a goatskin drum, plus a variety of fiddles and mandolins, wind instruments and traditional percussion - and did I see a case of harmonicas being primed at one point?
It was a fantastic, fantastical night. The music ranged from mysterious medieval dances to breakneck modern polkas, from elegant French bourrees to strange new pieces.
Most of those playing have recorded - contact The Daughters of Elvin for details of who was there and what CDs are currently avaiable.
Details of the next Saint's Session will be posted on okehamptonpeople.co.uk - or pop in to the King's Arms, order a beer, and call for the gurdies.
