With Okehampton - and the whole of Devon - geared up for the beginning of the peak tourist season, the weather has taken a hand and stopped trade in its tracks.

Many English schools broke up last week and in clement conditions the A30 would be packed with holidaymakers heading west - with some at least stopping and spending in the town. But the roads today appear clear.

They were visitors in some numbers around yesterday, as traffic ground to a halt round Waitrose and Lidl, but this morning - just look at the picture above taken at Whitehouse Services at 9.00am! I've seen it more crowded on a Monday in November.

If you are holidaying in the area and have just arrived, there are places to go when it's raining. Start at The Museum of Dartmoor Life, which will while away a full morning , then maybe head to Sticklepath, lunch in The Taw River Inn or The Devonshire, then take in Finch Foundry - a working 19th Century water-powered industrial site.

There are plenty more indoor attractions within 20 miles Okehampton: use the local people sites to find what's on and where to go.
