The blaze is close to the centre of the town
With the roof well alight on two sides, fire crews used compressed air foam jets, water jets, hose reel jets and breathing apparatus as they attempted to control the blaze.
Fire appliances from Crediton, Danes Castle (Exeter), Middlemoor (Exeter), North Tawton, Witheridge, Tiverton, Topsham, Moretonhampstead, Cullompton, Chumleigh, Sidmouth, Honiton, and South Molton are at the scene.
Staff working at a nearby pub described seeing "a large plume of greyish brown smoke going high in the sky".
The road has been closed and is expected to remain so for some time.
**The police are advising members of the public to avoid the Crediton area due to heavy traffic congestion. It is believed that the fire has now spread to a total of six properties but it is understood that no-one has been injured. Road closures are in place.**
