I am sick and tired of the moaners living in okehampton constantly rambling on about TESCOS, the trouble is with okehampton its the same old whingers whom by the way are either shop owners, or small minded bigots afraid of change, and afraid of moving forward. Okehampton is dying and its never going to change unless people get up and stand up and stop belly aching about change. this town needs to get rid of the old out of touch town councillors and elect new councillors with fresh ideas, these same old councillors get co opted onto the council, what they dont realise is they havent actually been voted on by the people of okehampton, which is why we are dished up with tripe . time for change people lets for everyones sake take okehampton forward, for the better, what exactly has this town council done, close toilets to build more, fritter thousands of pounds down the drain, an eyesore of the gateway garden on east street, and a volume of more utter rubbish.. wakey wakey okehampton support tescos crediton stood up for it, and we can. half the town is full of charity shops and estate agents and nothing else, traffic bad due to 3 supermarkets being close together, yet the crossing they put in by co op was suppose to be wonderful for the town its all tripe, once again you only have the town council to kick up the backside for this! better still get rid.

Interesting comments but I think you need to check your facts - all the planning decisions (toilets, buildings, shops etc) within the Town are dealt by West Devon Borough Council and parking, roads etc. by Devon County Council, not the Town Council. As far as I am aware no decision has been made regarding Tescos as it has not yet applied for planning at WDBC. As to Town Council members being 'small minded bigots' or 'out of touch' with the community, they set up a group to plan and implement an economic regeneration programme which was developed with residents and business owners over many consultation meetings. The plan is currently in process and involves all the local authorities, business groups and community representatives. I recommend coming to Town Council Meetings, which are open to the public, and see how it actually works and how dedicated the Councillors are to Okehampton.
