With just a week to go before the most romantic evening of the year, there's hardly a business in Okehampton which has not introduced a Valentine slant to their operation.

The hotels, pubs and restaurants lead the way.

The Fountain is offering a special menu for the night. For £19.95/person delights such as pigeon breast wrapped in Parma ham, grey mullet in white wine and a chocolate pot with chilli are of offer, with a rose for the ladies.

Exbourne's Red Lion has a similarly-priced menu, but with slightly more conventional fare on offer, including prawn and crayfish cocktail and chicken breast in a cider and grape sauce.

For £24.95, The White Hart offers, among many other things, scallops, venison steak and Bailey's cheesecake on their romantic menu, while at the other end of the financial scale, The King's Arms in South Zeal is serving two meals for £25 and throwing in a drink as well.

Betty Cottles  menu, at £19.95, includes goats cheese, spinach and red onion tartlet, lamb cutlets and passionfruit cheesecake, while the most expensive menu locally - £29.50 at The Bearslake - runs to four courses and includes champagne on arrival.

For all the featured venues, follow the link to confirm availability (some are serving their special meal on Saturday as well as the day itself) and to book.

Whether you dine out or have a romantic evening in by the fire, enjoy!
