New cookware shop and coffee shop for Okehampton

For months now there has been speculation about the future of the building us oldies still refer to as Neros - and finally we've been given the answer! Toast, opening at the end of November, will be a cookware shop and coffee shop, and maybe a cafe... this is what they say on their web site...
-
The newly-renovated premises in Market Street
"We have renovated a beautiful old Edwardian cinema to create Toast. Toast is a stylish cookware shop and a seriously good coffee shop. Customers can browse through the cookshop with products for cooks and exciting ideas for gifts, and later relax in our leather sofas with a coffee, lunch, glass of wine or cup of tea listening to music and browsing Devon Life, local papers or the Beano."
They mention business meetings, informal meeting, wi fi... will they be open in the evening?
Now, is this just what the town needs? Will the good burghers of Okehampton be flocking there?
As soon as they open, there'll be reviews here on Okehampton People. In the meantime, lets wish the management all the best: any attempt to brighten up the town must be applauded!

ReportOkehampton certainly needs brightening up, for the sake of everyone's morale. I am still waiting for someone to do something exciting with The Plume of Feathers - make it into a theatre, music venue (all kinds), arts venue. There must be someone out there with money and vision. Or perhaps the Council are busy beavering away finding something to inspire the youth and culturally deprived in the area. Oh, yes, I forgot. There is the 'Dartmoor Gate' art installation at the junction of Crediton Road and Exeter Road. I wonder how much that cost.........

ReportI have lived in Okehampton all my life and never been called cheap...Its ok having a new posh cafe with posh prices to go with it..BUT at present Okehampton people will want when asked a job with a wage so their can be able to go to the nice new fancy cafe....The businesses in the town are at a very good standard and must be supported in these very trying times..Another cafe best of luck to them....and whats wrong with Tesco's i would not say there are cheap......And we have always welcomed people into the town..

ReportGood for them - it's very difficult to open a decent business in this town as many locals only seem to want cheap credit crunch cafes and a Tesco up the road. Maybe not all businesses have to be for unemployed people. Maybe, just maybe, if we attract people with money into the town, that will make it a more interesting place for all of us. Let's face it and let's be honest, there is not one single decent cafe or pub lunch in town compared to say, Tavistock or Chagford or even Crediton for goodness sake, although I do like the new Tootie Fruitie bar. The thing is, you have to invest in order to get a return and it is good that these people are confident that Okehampton is the right place for them to open up. I for one am looking forward to a decent kitchen/cook shop as well as somewhere decent to eat that I won't be embarrassed to take my friends to. Now I know this will not be a popular comment but I don't care - I despair that many Okehampton people will ever welcome outsiders into the town - they are allowed to make money you know and it's about time they were supported and welcomed.
