WE LOVE our Mums in Okehampton, and with Mother's Day coming up on Sunday 10 March, there's no better way to show your Mum how much she means to you than by spoiling her rotten for the day!

A timely reminder from The Card Factory
Traditionally celebrated a week before Palm Sunday, Mothers' Day (or Mothering Sunday) used to be the one day in the year when servant girls were allowed to go home to see their mothers. As a gift for her mother, a girl would bake a Simnel cake, a rich fruit cake with a marzipan filling and topping. It's a charming tradition, and one you can copy, with Simnel cakes available in local bakeries and supermarkets.
Flowers and chocolates are popular Mothers' Day gifts, too, but if you really want to treat your Mum, why not give her a day off from the housework and cooking? It's sure to be appreciated! And since Mother's Day is a Sunday, what could be nicer than a traditional Sunday lunch?
The Prewley Moor Arms at Sourton Down is offering a tempting Mothers' Day menu with main course choices of roast beef or pork or, for the veggies a spinach and ricotta lasagne, plus favourite desserts like apple crumble, lemon meringue pie and chocolate fudge cake. Two courses cost £10.95 and three £12.95. What's more, the Prewley Moor Arms is currently offering Okehampton People regulars who manage to tuck away a three-course meal a 20% discount! Click here for your voucher.
In town, the White Hart Hotel is also offering a special Mothers' Day menu. The White Hart is a perennial favourite with Okehampton People users: sea_cider praises their 'great prices and delicious food, including the excellent Sunday carvery'. Over at South Zeal, the Oxenham Arms Hotel is serving Mothers' Day lunch in its elegant Oak Room accompanied by live piano music.
At North Tawton, The Copper Key Inn is offering a traditional roast lunch of beef, turkey, lamb or nut roast, followed by luscious desserts including white chocolate cheesecake, dark chocolate and brandy mousse and Morello cherry crumble. Gastropub The Harris Arms at Lewdown also has a Mothers' Day menu on offer at £15 for two courses and £18 for three.
Or, for a really memorable day, why not treat your Mum to a roast lunch in the magnificent surroundings of Castle Drogo? Lunches start at £9.50, and children will also have the opportunity to make their Mums some flowers! Click here for details.
We hope these ideas help you decide how to spoil your Mum this year – have a great Mothers' Day!
