Local People in Okehampton - and right across the country

It's just two years since Okehampton People went live as one of only 23 Local People sites - part of a pilot scheme launched by Northcliffe Digital to see of there was any interest - or any future - in interactive community news sites.

The Local People are spreading across England
A quick glance at the map above shows what the answer was. The Local People Network has spread right across the country, taking in towns from Cornwall to Yorkshire. For a full list click here and visit the local people of towns you know, are planning to visit - or where your friends live.
Every site provides a full listing of businesses, so whether you're looking for a pub meal or replacement windows the information will be there.
Local businesses with foresight have already started taking advertising on the sites, seeing it as the way to be seen by their potential customers.
Although one of the smallest sites in terms of population, Okehampton has grown steadily, with nearly 500 people having joined. (If you haven't joined yet, do, it now! You'll be able to make your own contributions to the site, upload your photos and comment on anything that's going on. Plus you can review and rate local businesses.)
You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
Remember Okehampton People is just that. It's for all Okehampton people... so get involved and have your say!

500 isn't bad at all when you consider the size of the population (compared with, say, Bideford or Falmouth) - but perhaps more important, we get thousands of hits every week. More and more people are finding their way to the site.

ReportI wondered how many people had joined - 500's not many is it - how can we all spread the word? It's a great site and with more people joining it would widen the range of topics etc
